Chimney & Fireplaces/Adding an Insert

Question
Hello,

I live in a condo when I have a regular "pre-fab" fireplace with glass doors. My house tends to be cold as I only have an electric heat pump (I live in PA). My main living area where the fireplace is located is actually on the 2nd floor with a chimney approx 8-10ft in length. The fireplace wall is made of stone and runs to the ceiling. I would like to add a wood burning stove insert but I believe the chimney may have to be lined as they produce more heat. Can you advise? Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Anthony,

"Pre-Fab" or Factory-Built Fireplaces are NOT listed or designed to receive wood-burning fireplace inserts.  Installation would void any warranty, the listing, and could cause a potential fire hazard.

It is not recommended to install a wood-burning fireplace insert in this application.
