Question
I would like to reconstruct and put in built-ins around an existing gas fireplace box.  Is there a specific clearance required between the top of the vent to the mantle?  I would like to install a TV above, but concerned about how close (or how low) the TV can be in relation to the gas fireplace.  Thanks! Hi Kristin,

You must consult the particular installation manual for that particular fireplace to ge tthe clearances recommended by the manufacturer.

You'll also need to install a mantel above and/or around the fireplace to deflect the heat off the fireplace away from the television.  I would recommend a MINIMUM mantel depth of 10"'
