Question
We recently installed a new Xtrordinair fireplace (36CFR)and noticed that after about 30 minutes of use, the marble surround at the top center of the fireplace box is scorched. We immediately turned it off. Any ideas what could cause this. Thank you for your help.

The manufacture requires that the unit be surrounded with cement board first, drywall second and any noncombustible material provided it doesn't protrude more than 3/4" inches from the glass. If your marble is protruding more than 3/4" inches from the glass, that's why it's scorched. If a mastic was used to adhere the marble to the drywall, you can expect a foul odor and toxic fumes to be the next issue. If the marble doesn't protrude more than 3/4" inches from the glass, contact the manufacture. Cut and paste the link below to see if your unit was involved in this recall as well. Good luck.

| Comment | Thank you, Randy. The marble surround does not protrude over the fireplace frame. After reading the manual again, I believe I found the problem. It is a heat adjustment valve at the exact spot that we are experiencing the problem. | ||
