Question
Hey Bart - I am looking at building an outdoor brick fireplace, and I have gathered some information of the web.  I am by no means a mason, but I have layed some brick.  It's the details of the construction that are worrying me.  For example, how to install the damper, smoke chamber construction, etc.  Is there any site that you know of that provides reasonably comprehensive instructions with some photos?

Hi Skip,

The only site I can point you to is www.bia.org.  See section 19 regarding technical notes.

I would caution you that this job is much, much more than just laying some brick.  Fieplace construction is not really a job I would suggest you tackle at this point.
