Question
I recently moved into a house that has several gas fireplaces with pilot lights on all the time. Given it is summer and very hot and I don't plan on starting any fires for 6 months, is it okay if I turn them off now and restart them in the winter. I know where the pilot light switch is, but I'm not sure where the gas line valve is, so I was planning on just turning it off at the pilot. I figure by turning them off I'll save on gas and on my air conditioning.
Hi Mark,
Yes, you can turn the pilot light at the control valve under the fireplace. You don't need to turn the gas line valve off.
Don't forget that this appliance needs an annual service by a qualified person!
