Question
I have a 15 year old Superior fireplace model - KR 43. How close can the framing be to the double wall vent? I am recessing a TV above the mantel. The chimney sweep cleaned it and gave it a clean bill of health but did not know the answer to this question. I always thought 2 inches but want another opinion. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Without the installation instructions, I cant tell you the requirement of the manufacture. That being said, I suspect your correct in your assumption of two inches, but would recommend a couple of things first. Try to find your instructions, refer to the listed firestop spacer at the ceiling line, or go with three inches just for added protection. I would hope that your chimney sweep recommended a complete level II inspection as defined by NFPA-211, prior to giving your system a clean bill of health. This is traditionally difficult to do with no installation instructions to refer to and access to crawl spaces etc. Good luck.
