Question
I have a wood burning fireplace with a masonry firebox and chimney that I am hoping to install a direc vent natural gas insert. I need to run a gas line to the inside of the firebox and am wondering what options are best. Could the line be run outside of the house through the chimney or does it need to be run from the basement?

Answer
Hi Kevin,

That will depend on your particular setup.  You need to consult a licensed plumber and have them provide specific options for this particular job.

You'll probably need a shutoff valve installed within 36" of the firebox as well.
