Question
I was recently given an old Schrader Fireplace woodburning stove. It is in great shape and has been setting in a garage for the past 12 years. The outlet pipe on the stove is 8 inches in diameter. My masionery chimney is only 7 inches in diameter. Is there any problem in reducing the stove outlet pipe from 8 inches to 7 inches just above the stove to connect the outlet pipe to the flu??? Thanks for your advice.
Hi Don,
You would be better off to replace the old stove with a new unit that meets epa requirements.
There are many units out there that have a 6" flue outlet which would solve your problem.
Don't forget to have a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep check the flue with a video camera system to make sure it doesn't have any hidden defects.

| Comment | Bart, Thanks very much for your short concise answer. The only alternative that I have now is to have the flue diameter increased to 8 inches. Or, I could get another woodburner that has a smaller outlet pipe. Is the Schrader Fireplace woodstove worth keeping and investing in a mason to inlarge the flue?? | ||
