Question
what is the easiest and cheapest way to make a chase for a chimney?-------------------------

I am installing a wood burning stove near an outside wall of my house. I am going to run the chimney up through the ceiling and out the roof. The problem is that I have a 12/12 roof pitch, which mean I will have to run the chimney 12 ft out the roof. Now as far as I know this is possible but it really doesn't look that good. I have look at putting elbows in the attic but it really doesn't help the situation that much, I will still have a very tall chimney. Are there any other ways to do this without having a chimney that is ungodly tall?

Hi Joel,
Other than building a chase enclosure, you're going to be stuck with it. Anything over 6' tall will have to be supported if you just run it out the roof.

In your case, a chimney chase is a wooden structure, tied into the roof trusses/rafters, sealed as needed at the roof/chase junction and covered with appropriate exterior cladding materials to make it weathertight.
