Question
I live in a century old schoolhouse and have been told by the oil company that I need a new tank and a chimney liner.To save money I am doing the work myself but am stuck at the cleanout. The brick chimney didn't have one and it ends up at the furnace in stone. We normally took off the pipe from the furnace to the chimney and cleaned it out from there. The new liner will bend into the old thimble and it will be worked from there to the furnace.I know I am in Canada and regs may be different here but is a cleanout really necessary.

Hi Mike,
You should have a cleanout tee at the bottom of the flue liner to catch any soot that falls from the interior of the liner. Without a cleanout tee, this can plug the bottom of the liner.
I would recommend that you contact a WETT Certified technician in Canada to give you particular advisement on this situation.
