Question
I understand that the most common way to change a large rock, wood burning fireplace to kiva is to use lathe and plaster, but I wonder if it is feasible and/or easier to use "bendy board", attach it to the walls where the fireplace attaches, and then plaster over that, as lathe is not "user-friendly".  Thanks, Megan

We have used lathe and mortar numerous times for this purpose.  I have no idea what "bendy board" is.
