Chimney & Fireplaces/fire pit alternative?

Hi-
Hope you can help on this one. I recently bought a small fire pit/conversation table for our patio.  I would like it to reside in an area that has an overhang.  I realize I could never have any raging fires with this--but is there a product out there that will burn cleanly and not too "big"  ( i just want ambiance, not really heat or BBQ) I was thinking a gel alcohol, but all I can find are the fireplaces that are meant for them.  Converting to gas is not an option either.  Any ideas?  Thanks so much!!
