Hi we just moved into our house about 6 months ago and our fireplace will not quit pouring smoke into our house the fireplace has no damper cause the people who owned it before us cut it out for some reason. Plus the chimney had no cap. We put a cap on it and it still smokes. Inside the fireplace there is a lip on it coming towards the inside of the house do you think that this could be why it smokes inside or what do you think.

There are MANY causes for this and all of them are too involved to discuss over a keyboard.

I recommend you contact a local CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep to do some on-site diagnosis of your problem.
