Question
We would like to build a mantle over a corner placed wood stove, and enclose the sides to cover some very dark poorly placed field stone. The whole thing is not even- the stove doesnt sit at right angle, etc. I can attach photo- can you please give us basic ideas?

In effect, you are describing an alcove installation. All EPA certified hearth appliances will bare a listing label. This listing label will identify the manufacture and a model number. If you don't poses the manufactures installation instructions, this info will help you obtain it. With that said, if there is no label and your stove in not listed, I would recommend removal and replacement of the stove.
