Chimney & Fireplaces/When to install a propane fireplace

Question
I'm building a home and would like to know when is the best time to install a direct vent propane fireplace.  Should it be before or after the drywall is installed?  Also, since it vents to the outside, should it be installed before or after the JH siding is installed?  I'm only in the bid process, but I think the fireplace retailer will do the install(rather than the plumber/HVAC guy).  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Dear Matthew,

The best time is before the sheetrock is installed.  This is typically required by the local inspector in order to inspect the clearances.

Typically the house is sided before drywall is installed so it (typically) would be after the siding is installed in order to make a weathertight seal on the exterior.

I would have the fireplace retailer install it.  They are the professional, not the plumber/HVAC guy.

Thanks for using allexperts.com and enjoy your new home!

Sincerely,
