To clarify.  I'm designing a 2 story house with a wood burning fireplace on an exterior wall.  On the first floor I want to have access to this chimney for the living room.  On the second floor directly above in the master bedroom, I'd like to have access to the same chimney.  Can one chimney serve rooms on different floors?  And if so, what size chimney is required for the two flues?

I would like to use a single brick chimney form to provide a wood burning fireplace at the first and second floors of a new house.  Can it be done, and if so, what would be the minimum dimensions (width & depth) required?

Hi Hans,

You must have a separate flue for EACH woodburning fireplace or appliance.  More than one flue can be housed in the same chimney.

The size of the flue for each woodburning fireplace is determined by the size of the opening of the individual fireplace or appliance.
