Question
I have a wide natural stone fireplace surround. I want to build a (wood) fireplace surround from ceiling on down to mantel height that will house a 7 ft. electric film screen from view when not in use.  What are the factors to consider in doing this project?
Also, I have sunroom built on the back side of a laundry room with a 4-inch dryer vent pipe running diagonally downward in the sunroom side to an external vent. It is ugly and would like to know if I can run a vertical vent up through laundry room ceiling & then to outside?

Hi John,

Heat off the fireplace will likely affect the television at some point in time with a reduced service life.  That's the main factor.

Yes, you can do a dryer exhaust vent like that.  Where the vent is enclosed, it must be rigid materials.  Do NOT use white vinyl as connector or vent and do not conceal any flex ducting.
