Question
we are going to a wedding of our cousin in wuhai, inner mongolia and would like to combine the trip to see either the grassland or the desert, if possible away from the mass tourism, but we've only got 3 days, beginning of september. which do you suggest? Huitengxile, Xilamuren, Xilinguole, Hulun Buir, Xiangshawan or the Alashan desert? or anything else? can we fly from Shanghai and not go to Beijing?
thanks for helping, Stefanie

Answer
Dear Stefanie,

I've never been to Inner Mongolia, but I've had several friends that have been there.  Keep your schedule simple, there is very limited infrastructure, so you probably will not be able to visit anything far from your main destination.

I'm not sure where Wuhai is, but in answer to your question, there are a couple of regular flights to Hohhot from Shanghai.  Try elong.com it's a domestic (China) airline travel site, but they have an English search capability.  It'll give you an idea of what flights are available and roughly how much they should cost.

I hope this helps you have a great trip.

Best regards,
