Question
Hello,

I have been trying everywhere to find the filming location from a movie: specifically, the name and location of the monastery in ace ventura when nature calls.  I was hoping you  might have some idea of how and who to contact to find out that information.  Thanks!
Travis

Answer

Ace Ventura: When Natu
Sorry Travis,

The scene in When Nature Calls where Ace Ventura visits a remote Buddhist monastery in the Tibetan highlands (see attached snapshot) is entirely CGI fiction.

If it had been an authentic location, then certainly I would have known it and photographed it during my time in Tibet. But the reality is it doesn't exist. Not to say there aren't some impressive monasteries in Tibet, but none at that exaggerated altitude.

If you have any other specific questions about traveling in Tibet, feel free to ask.

p.s. If you are into Tibetan monasteries, please consider picking up a copy of my new book of photography CHINA: Portrait of a People; the Tibet chapter contains several stunning images of Tibet's most scenic monasteries; perhaps this will make up for my bad news about Ace Ventura :)

CommentThanks for the info Tom! I am going to be visiting Tibet and if that monastery in Ace ventura was in fact real, I wouldn't have wanted to miss it, but I will definitely take a look at your book to give me some ideas of where to go. Thanks again!
