Question
I am flying with my son from Osaka Int'l airport to Vancouver Canada on China Airlines. We have an 8 hour stop over,  enroute to Vancouver, my question is: May we leave the airport and go into the city for a few hours? My passport is Canadian, my child who is 12 years old has a Japanese passport.

Answer
Hi Sherry,

Im sorry, I did not read your question properly before...I thought you were entering Beijing airport as I read you were flying via China....Taipei does not fall under China, but Taiwan.

So, let me see...

This is where you'll find your answer..it seems that you can enter the country without a visa, but please check with the Embassy of Taiwan..there may be a different rule if you are transferring.
