China & Hong Kong/Science jobs in china

Question
Hi, I'm 16 and I live in the UK. When I'm older, I love to live in china for a number of reasons. However, to keep it short and sweet I just want to ask you if looking for a job involving science (preferably chemical/biological) is a good idea because I heard that china invests a lot into science but I can't be too sure!
Thanks
Ryan

Answer
Hello Ryan.

Thanks for writing.

Your best route at this point(although things change) would be to work for a Western based company that could eventually send you to China to work on their operations there.

On the other hand, if you spend the years needed to master Mandarin, you could potentially get hired directly by a Chinese company.

You have the right idea though.  China is moving quickly up the innovation, science and technology ladder.  Couple that with their new importance as a global power and the ever increasing importance of science to economic growth, you would do well to follow that path.

Best regards,

Michael
