China & Hong Kong/Travel to China During National Day Holiday

Question
I am planning a trip to China for sometime in September/October. I read about China's national 3-day to 1 week-long holiday beginning October 1st. Aside from hotel/transportation availability, I am interested in knowing whether or not tourist attractions such as museums and historic sites will be open during this holiday. Thanks.

Answer
It is my experience that most if not all tourist attractions and museums are open during China's national holidays. These holidays (known as Golden Weeks) are pretty much the only occasions during the year for Chinese to travel as tourist in their own country, so it is in China's best interest to keep everything open. The one exception I can think of is Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) during January/February, but since you are coming in the fall, it should not concern you. I can't answer for every single museum and tourist spot, but I think generally speaking, you will be able to visit anywhere you want. Beware the crowds, however. Train and bus transport are usually booked up in advance during the Golden Weeks, as are hotels. Make your plans as early in advance as possible.
Best,
