I want to visit China. I was told to stay out of Shaghai and stick to Hong Kong. For safety reasons. But I want to see both. Shanghai for it pretty lights and technology andHongKong for the beautiful scenery. Which one would you suggest for a first time visitor to china?

Both Hong Kong and Shanghai are beautiful places. Whoever told you to avoid Shanghai for safety reasons did not know what he was talking about. Provided you take all the common precautions that one would take while travelling in your own country or in any other developed country you should be as safe as possible in Shanghai. So once again do not even think about avoiding Shanghai for safety reasons.

I travelled for a month all over China and I never felt scared for my safety at any time.
