Question
Im not sure thats how to spell "himalayas" but anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me more info about backpacking throught this region. Is there a lot of hostals and such, cause I don't wish to stay in a hotel, my goal is to spend the least money possible, and have a true adventure. Thanks for your help,
-Chris

Answer
Hello Chris,

You sure spelt "HIMALAYAS" correctly. I would recommend that you get hold of Lonely Planet's latest edition of TREKKING THE HIMALAYAS. This will give you the latest information on trekking in this wonderfully beautiful region of India, Nepal and parts of Pakistan.

Please remember that the Himalayas as a vast mountain range stretching right from the Hindu Kush region in Central Asial all along the north easter border of India, through Nepal and finally ending somewhere north of Burma. So it's a vast region and you will appreciate that I cannot put all information down in an email like this.

You will not find too many hostels but you can find some very basic local hotels or lodges that should be quite cheap to stay. Buses ply throughout the region whereever there are roads and they are cheap to use too. You will find lots of useful maps in the Lonely Planet that will help you to plan your treks and journeys.

Hope my information helps. Have a good and safe trip to India

Cheers
