Chinese - Appropriate Gifts in Chinese Culture

Expert: Shannon G. - 3/21/2008

Question
Hello,
An associate of mine and his wife are celebrating the birth of their daughter. I would like to give a congratulatory gift, but would like to stay mindful of their Chinese culture. Is it appropriate to give a card with a giftcard or cash in it? Are there any items you can suggest?

Answer
Dear Theresa,

Yes, card and cash is alright for Chinese, which means great fortune to us.

If you want to think about some other gifts, unique, you can refer to my previous answers to some questions. Some people have asked similar question before. I gave them lots of examples.

Best wishes to you and your Associate.

Shannon
