Chinese - gift for teacher

Expert: Shannon G. - 4/24/2008

Question
My son has been studying Chinese in high school this past year.  I would like to know if it is appropriate for him to give his teacher a gift at the end of the school year.  His teacher is visiting from China and we would like to do something nice for her.  What would you suggest?

Answer
Dear Michaeline,

Glad to hear that your son has been studying Chinese. Actually it was a very good gesture to give his teacher a small gift to show your appreciation. I think something very Chinese would really touch her/him. Something that would bring her/him the feeling of home. If I were in her/his shoes, I would really delighted to see my students love China/Chinese so much.

Thanks and good luck

Shannon
