AboutNicola Zheng Expertise I can answer questions in English and Chinese, culture, language, and business (conducting business in China) related.
Experience I was born in China and grew up in the US. I've attended Chinese school for 6 years in NY while growing up. I've passed proficiency in the language at the University of Pennsylvania. I work for a company that has an overseas office located in Shanghai, China, so I am very much accustomed to communicating in Chinese as well as conducting business in China (I used to travel there 4 times a year).
Question Dear Nicola,
I would very much like to learn how to type Chinese characters on my
computer, as I'm learning Chinese (with the help of a blog partner in
Chengdu). I've installed all the software and done the settings to enable
Chinese writing. I haven't been able, though, to figure out how to actually
tap out the characters. E.g., If I want to write the three stroke character (one
long horizontal line, one shorter line in the middle and another long
horizontal one parallel to the others at the bottom, which keys do I use? Is
there an online tutorial or a website somewhere where i can maybe read
something about this?
Thanks for any relevant response!
Best wishes,
Tom
Answer Hi Tom,
There are several entry modes for Chinese characters, however, I'm only familiar with the Pingyin entry method. Each word has a corresponding pingyin (combination of alphabets that spells out a sound according to the Chinese pingyin system), so you just type out the pingyin's alphabets and choose the corresponding character.
You can follow this link to get more details on this entry method.
