Chinese/Chinese Label Translation??

Question
Dear John,
I was hoping that you may be able to translate the two characters on this plastic label. I have included 3 images, one of which was taken with a microscope. I don't even know if the characters are Chinese, but I am assuming so. I believe the top 3 characters are letters and appear to be 'H N - I', but the bottom two characters appear to be symbols of some sort.
The label is very badly scratched, but I was hoping that you may still be able to give me a guess as to what you think the symbols are.
Thanks so much in advance, and if it is not Chinese then I apologize!
Best Regards,
Hillary
AnswerHi Hillary,
Yes they are Chinese characters. but first, I'd like to point out that the "3 letters" are probably two letters plus one number, which read HN-1(one). i am pretty sure the character on the left is 华 (pronounced as hua2). do you notice the initial H is for hua? the one on the right is scratched worse and only the right half is readable. a reasonable guess (given its initial is N) is it's 诺 (nuo4). 华 means China and 诺 can mean Promise. However, 华诺 together doesn't mean anything. it sounds a name or a brand to me.
let me take a wild guess here, if it's not correct, just don't laugh at me. is it for a chemical compound called chlorine dioxide? Anyway, if you can tell me what the label is for, I can try to google possible combinations and get back you to you with more accurate guess.
Kind regards,
John
