Question
I would like to paint calligraphy on a small scroll which I have a rosewood holder for. It's a nice holder for calligraphy and want to put a message on it for my best friends 50th birthday. Is there a Chinese saying or greeting to honor a longtime frendship? I could probably fit up to 10 or 12 characters on this scroll. I have studied Chinese for 3 years but don't know anything but basic stuff. Thanks

I can't think of anything off the top of my head...you probably want to find a real Chinese person (a native speaker) who grew up with this sort of thing. They will know those phrases immediately. It's just part of the culture that you absorb over the years, and I don't have any experience with it. Sorry I can't help. :-(
