Question Shannon:
Thanks so much for your thoughtful and helpful responses.
My wife and I have adopted 3 children from China (2 girls and 1 boy) over the part three years and have become very close friends with our Chinese guides who are a married couple living in Fuzhou. These friends just had their first baby yesterday, a beautiful little girl!
We are preparing a gift package to send to them to celebrate the birth of their daughter and are including a lot of traditional American baby gifts like onesies, infant towels, sleepers, booties, etc.
In addition to these items, we would love to include something that is more of a traditional Chinese gift given to the baby or the baby's parents. We saw in an earlier post you recommended a red thread bracelet or necklace with a small sliver or gold charm of the animal for the year the baby is born, or a Chinese lock. Where could we find/order such a gift? Or, do you have any other recommendations you could make?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
Answer Dear John and Beth,
Great to hear that you have such a close connection with Chinese. Yes, a red thread bracelet or necklace with a small sliver or gold, or a Chinese lock is always the best gift for the newly born baby besides the booties and sleepers you mentioned.
I'm not sure where you can buy them in your country. But I suggest you try China Town. If you are in China, you can always find them in a Jewelry Store.
Hope my information helps!
Best wishes to you, your 3 kids and your Chinese friends!
