Chiropractors/Back pain

Question
Hi, my name is Jim, I'm 19 years old and I hurt my back in early April(it's now October). Basically at first, my back just felt a bit off and it would kind of hurt when i bent over so i went to a chiropractor and after a while, my back pain went away. Then, i started playing sports again and one day, i hurt my back playing basketball and the next day, it felt really sore and stiff, especially at the sides when i try to bend over and touch opposite toes (eg. right hand touch left toes), or stand for too long. This back pain has not subsided and even though i'm still seeing a chiropractor, it's not helping. Recently, my lower buttocks have been kind of sore and i can't stand for more than 15 minutes without feeling my back seizing up and when i sit for too long, my leg hurts at the sides. I'm really scared this back pain won't heal. What should i do? Is this considered chronic back pain? Can i be cured?

Answer
It sounds as if there may be a muscular component to the problem that needs to be addressed, as well as a good rehab. program to restrengthen your spine.  If you have no further change within a few visits, you should see your family physician to rule out any other problems.
