Question
Hi.. I'm just wondering why the bones in my back pop/cracks whenever I take a deep breath. There is no pain. I feel like I'm not able to fulfill a breath without it popping and when they do pop I'm relieved.. I don't know what's wrong with me.

Answer
Hello Enalia,

A common question- 'pop/ cracks' in joints; good or bad?

The >pop< or >crack< that we feel, hear in our joints, by itself, is neither good nor bad.

On joint noise,,, joints make noises.  Creaking, cracking, different sounds--- without pain, can be normal.  The body makes noises, hearts beat like a drum, stomachs growl, lungs whoosh, joints creak,,, but these noises should be WITHOUT pain.  If WITH pain, then it is a problem, and needs Xrays or MRI to evaluate the joint surfaces.

Cracking upon taking a deep breath, cracking with a feeling of relief; the 'cracking' of the joint is the joint 'stretching', like stretching a muscle; usually a good stretch does bring relief.

If this is constant, or if it comes with ANY pain, then I recommend evaluation. If pain-free , I do not think it a matter of concern.

If you are still concerned, your local doctor of chiropractic could be a good licensed health professional to visit.
