Chiropractors/Bad knee-Possible meniscal tera

Question
I'm a very kin runner/mountain biker (run 4 miles every other day) and was diagnosed with meniscus tear 1/2 a year ago. I didn't take the surgery. I continued training until last week, when the pain became to much to handle and my knee started to lock. I'm now going to see a physician and most likely take the surgery. Questions: (a) Surgery, do doctors usually fix the tear or just cut it? What is best? (b) After the operation, what sport would I be able to do? I have diabetes type 2 and doing sport (especially cardio) is absolutely vital! Thanks.

Answer
Congratulations on having that driving spirit!!!  Depending on the tear and it's severity, they may just "snip" the tear or remove the meniscus.  Running may be out, but walking should be ok to perform.  The cardio you mention is very helpful in maintaining your overall health, and especially helpful for the diabetes.
