Chiropractors/Manipulation With Neck Fracture

Question
My low back has been absolutely killing me and I would love to go see a
Chiropractor.  The only thing is, back in November (2007)  I was hit by a car
as a pedestrian.  I went to the ER, they did exrays, nothing was fractured and
sent me home with pain meds.  What I learned however, was I had an old
fracture of the spinous process of C2.  I had no idea.  My only is guess is I
had a head-on crash back in 1983 (but I'm sure had I fractured my neck the
doctors would of seen it).  My only other guess is I got bashed really hard on
the top of my head with a car door in 1994.  I never had it checked out even
though I really should.  My question, can I receive chiropratic treatment with
an old neck fracture?  Thank you in advance.

Answer
Shay,

Yes, you can see a chiropractor with an old spinous process fracture of C2.   It is not a barrier to obtaining care.  There are many ways to provide treatment without directly contacting the C2 spinous process, and C2 contact may not have any effect whatsoever on the fracture site.  It's nowhere near your spinal cord and the old fracture site is, at this point, filled in with fibrous scar tissue.
