Question
Hi. I have had terrible pain under my right breast area for about 10 years.
Nobody can seem to find a problem, xrays, mri, etc.  It feels as though my rib is
getting "stuck" in something. I have had broken ribs, long time ago. I am 45,
female. Could this be related? What can be done? I literally have to "wiggle"
myself out of the "stuck" feeling. Thank you.

Hello Colleen,

  You may have a subluxated rib.  Often coughing or sneezing can displace a rib and cause extreme or mild pain in the front (sternum) of the chest or in the back where the rib inserts into the spine (costovertebral junction). Deep breathing can increase the pain due to the expansion of the chest which stretches the small muscles between the ribs (intercostal muscles).  A strain of the intercostal muscles can also produce similar pain.  Often after breaking ribs they become easily subluxated due to torn ligaments and scar tissue.  You may want to see a Doctor of Chiropractic they will perform an exam to determine exactly where and what is causing the pain. Chiropractic treatment may provide great relief for you and speed recovery.
