Question
Hi, wonder if you can help.
I quite often wake in the night with a feeling on numbness or pain in my hip - both hips depending on what side i am lying. It is almost like cramp and i have to straighten my legs and move them around to try and get comfortable.
Can you help with what this might be.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Nicola,
It is very difficult to diagnose a condition without conducting a physical examination. I would first advise you to get an xray, taken of your lower back and hips. It is important to rule out any serious conditions such as bone infections etc. Also I would consult with your family doctor to discuss restless leg syndrome. This condition is often associated with various sensations in the lower extremities or torso at night. There are variety of causes including iron deficiency, smoking, obesity etc. I hope this helps
