Chiropractors/knee injury
Expert: Dr. Paul Newhart - 11/8/2009
QuestionHi, thanks for taking the time to review my question. I'm having some need pain due to direct
pressure, I don't think there is any serious damage but I'd like advice just the same. The injury arose from this situation: I was grappling w/ an opponent and they applies direct pressure to my
inner knee (the mcl area) w/ the point of their elbow, while i was giving resistance. There wasn't a pop or any sever pain, just discomfort that caused me to stop resisting. Basically the lower quadriceps area is very tight, and uncomfortable if i squat to the ground (where my heel comes to my buttocks). I can walk, jump, twist, move laterally, all w/out discomfort or structural compromise. My question is can I assume this injury is nothing more then a deep tissue or bone bruise?
Also note, there doesn't appear to be any swelling or discoloration. There is a very slight bruise
that isn't even noticeable unless i point it out.
Thanks for your help,
Sincerely, J
AnswerIt is quite possible only a deep bruise. If you haven't done so, Ice 20 min on and 20 off, repeating 4 times. Do this for 2 days, then switch to heat, at the same times of application. Anti inflammatories as necessary. If you do not see a change in symptoms within a few days, I would suggest you see a chiropractor that focuses on sports type injuries, as they can assess and treat this, rehab it, and refer out if necessary.
