Chiropractors/rib pain

Question
I've had a nagging pain to the lower left side of my rib cage.  The cause was that one night I was sleeping on an air mattress when it deflated in the middle of the night, and I was sleeping on my left side.  When I woke, there was some soreness, but nothing too alarming.  The increased pain came later.
I made the error of speaking to a friend who was a nurseand they recommended stretching first, which actually did bring much relief.  But the pain would come periodically, however none of my physical activity is accompanied by any pain.
The problem is when I am immobile, particularly sitting down or laying down.  When I feel the rib, it is almost as if the cartilage is detached, and that is the focused site of much pain.
I do fear that I may have left this injury untreated to long, being that it was approximately 18 months ago.  I am in the process of finding an experienced professional who can help.  Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Ben,

You may have a joint dysfunction where the rib meets the spine and/or adhesion formation deep in the musculature.  Bottom line: find a good chiropractor that has soft tissue skills.  Check these sites:   www.acbsp.com  www.grastontechnique.com   www.westhartforgroup.com   Odds are you'll get it fixed.
