Chiropractors/Ribhead subluxation

Question
I have had this condition for 3 years now.  I have been told by chiropractors that this is what I have, yet I have no permanent relief from this.  I know there are strengthening exercises to prevent future recurrence, but I don't know specifically what those exercises are.  I sit at a desk from 7:30am to 6pm due to my job. Will back or rib supports help? Please help!

Answer
Nathan,

Sitting at a desk all day long is torture to your spine.  You must regularly and frequently get out of the chair, even if it's for a few seconds.  Kneel on your chair.  Stand next to your desk and stretch and move.   Hit the gym.  Look in a mirror and note all the muscles you don't see facing the mirror: calves, hamstrings, buttock, lower back muscles, lat's, scapular muscles, and neck extensor muscles.   These are the ones you need to condition.   If you hire a personal trainer for a few weeks, that will get you pointed in the right direction.   You should focus on three sets of about 15 reps using dumbbells, floor "functional" exercises, and machines.  An example of functional exercises would included a 1-leg dead lift or a lunge.  Back extensions on a physio-ball is an example of a floor exercise that involves some balance.  You can see more functional exercises on www.coreessentials.biz;   I've seen stubborn "rib subluxations" go away with serious back/shoulder blade conditioning.

Good luck,
