Question
0.5 x 0.5 x 1.0 cm left paracentral disc sequestration at L5-S1.  There is mass (what is this?) effect on the anterior aaspect of the thecal sac (what is this?) on the left side with mild canal stenosis.  There i smass effect on the left S1 nerve root, which is displaced by approximately 3 mm.  Annular bulging and posterior spondylitic riding at L4-5 with borderline minimal canal stenosis,  There is mild bilateral foraminal narrowing at L4-5.  Questionable minimal annular bulging at L3-4.  Disiccation of the L4-5 and L5-S1 disc.  Levoscoliosis of the lumbar spine.  What dose this all mean? had steriod shots it seem I got worse.

Answer
Dear Lori,

The "mass" means there is something "solid" in the front of the thecal sac which is the part of the spinal cord in the lower back.  This is causing your problems and pain.  The steroid can only covers up the pain and once the effect  wears off, the pain may be worse due to the activities you engaged in when you don't feel the pain.
