Question
My husband suffers from low back pain due to a disc bulge at L5-S1 which abuts the left S1 nerve root.  Will visiting a Chiropractor help with the pain?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

Yes, a chiropractor can help.  I would suggest one that uses a flexion/distraction table.  If you look at my website, at the products-services tab, and click on the video of treatment for sciatica (http://www.drgillman.com/drgillman/pages/services.htm).   Most folks get some relief within a handfull of treatment sessions over a few weeks.  If there is no improvement at all after two weeks, then the treatment is off or he is not amenable to manual therapy.   Exercises are important, and the DC should instruct him on doing exercises that reduce any radiating thigh or leg pain, as well as teach spine-sparing activities.

'Hope this helps.
