Hello Theresa,

I am sorry to hear of your discomfort.  My number one recommendation- see someone in person for a physical examination.

You give a very brief question.  Whether on-line (as with www.AllExperts.com ) or in person, many more questions will be asked of you.

How old are you?, Are you active?, How is your general health and your fitness level?, do you play sports/ exercise?
How did this happen?, Were you born with this?, Did you injure yourself?, Sports?, car accident?, lift something heavy?, ever hear a snap/ crackle/ pop when this first happened?
Is this getting better/ worse/ more pronounced/ more debilitating?  It turns red?, Is the area ever hot?, ever any swelling along with the protrusion?, anything radiating down the shoulder/ arm/ hand?, anything radiating towards the head/ neck/ chest?
Is your Range of Motion affected?, is your strength affected?, is your arm girth (muscle development) the same on both arms?

Many, many questions will be asked in your subjective history portion.  Without the patient here in front of me, without conversation,,, I cannot even tell you where the line of questioning may go to.

Then a physical examination will take place.  Movement of your arm/ shoulder/ neck/ back will take place.  Evaluation of muscle/ nerve/ joint will be performed.

You need to see someone in person to evaluate you.

If you would like to give me further information,,, I will still try to give you more information long distance on-line.

After the subjective history, and physical examination; Xrays, perhaps an MRI, perhaps an EMG test will be ordered.
When it comes to the human body, there are never any quick, simple, easy answers.

Perhaps you have a 'winged scapula'- this would/ could be the result of an injury to a nerve.  Associated articles: http://www.livestrong.com/winging-scapula/ .

A local MD or perhaps DC could be of help to you.  Medical doctors have various specialties.  Perhaps an MD neurologist or orthopedist or physiatrist or sports medicine or rehabilitation specialist could evaluate, get an answer, work up a treatment regimen.
Chiropractic doctors, like our medical colleagues also have different areas of expertise, I am a DACBSP (sports injury specialist)  you can look up some of our specialties here:  http://www.acatoday.org/pdf/ApprovedChiropracticSpecialtyPrograms.pdf

The discomfort and protrusion should be evaluated by a health professional.  Of particular concern is redness which you mention,,,, redness COULD be a sign of some sort of infection: you would CERTAINLY want to be evaluated for any INFECTION (even though I do not think this likely).

I hope this helps.  If you would like further, do not hesitate to contact your Staten Island Sports Injury specialist here at AllExperts.com:  http://www.allexperts.com/ep/965-100794/Chiropractors/Victor-Dolan-DC-DACBSP.htm
