Question
I have loud excessive cracking and popping in my knees, ankles, hips and other parts of my body. And this popping does not stop. I can crack my knees and ankles for hours at a time and it is very noisy. It doesn't hurt or swell but it is extremely irritating! I am seventeen years old and have danced for eleven years and also am a swimmer. Can you give me an answer for this?

Answer
Hi Rachel,

This is all quite normal.  It's just joint noise and it is common in young folks.  Some have it worse than others.   So long as it's not painful popping, there's nothing to worry about except that it can drive you nutty.   It has been suggested that females are more prone this than males, and those who are more limber, e.g. dancgers, are more prone than those who are more tight-jointed, e.g football linemen.  You may find that this lessens as you get older.  Otherwise, there is no research on how to prevent or lessen this.   I would suggest not focussing on it.
