Question
I am currently 19 years old  and was diagnosed with
spondylothesis at age 14. I am unsure of the exact severity
of my specific spondy since it was so long ago, but the low
back pain I initially saw a chiropractor about dissipated
quickly once I implemented more stretching into my daily
routine. Because it was never severe, pain wise, and had no
other symptoms, I assume I am in a lower category of
spondylothesis. I was told to keep my abdomen and back
muscles strong and that the condition wouldn't worsen if I
did so. I was playing tennis heavily at the time, and
continue to do so on occasion, so I have stayed in good
shape and have never had any problems with back pain since
my initial diagnosis. However, I would like to play roller
derby within the next few years. Since it is a high contact
sport in which lots of falling is inevitable, I was
wondering if this would put me at risk of worsening my
condition. I would obviously stop doing anything if pain
started up, but I would love to play and just want to know
if repeated impact from falling could cause problems.
Thanks!

Answer
Any high impact activity can cause damage to your spine. Yes, having a spondylothesis does put you at a greater risk for injury following impact. I would suggest that you get an up to date x-ray of your spine and a full assessment by a chiropractor before you start roller derby.
