Chiropractors/pins and needles

Question
In early Aug. I began seeing a chiropractor for VERY slight pins in needles I noticed ocassionally in my arms .  I had been active walking 2 miles a day and swimming. I had no other symptoms. I was adjusted by a chiropractor 4 times. He used a spring loaded tool, a drop down table, and set my atlas each time.  He did not pop and crack. It had been 8 years since I had been to a chiropractor.  After each adjustment the pins and needles increased and spread. It seemed like wildfire. He said sometimes it gets worse before it gets better.  I now have burning that comes and goes in my shoulders and arms along with pins and needles that come and go.  In addition after the 2nd or 3rd adjustment I began feeling a strange sensation throughout my pelvic area when I sat down.  That has now turned into pins and needles when I sit down.  It generally goes away when standing. Also I now have a burning sensation all along my lower back whenever I ride in a car or sit in certain chairs. I have had an MRI of my head, neck, and lumbar areas.  All were normal. I have also had a  Conductive nerve study of my arms and legs which were normal.  All blood work for thyroid etc. has been normal. My neurologist has not been able to find any problem.  I am presently seeing a physical therapist.  I am really afraid for a chiropractor to touch me.  What do you suggest? I am 55 and have just retired. This has been a nightmare. Thank you so much for any suggestions you may have.  God bless!  Claire

Answer
Claire if your mri came back normal then you more than likely do not have any disc problems. I would suggest you get a second opinion from another chiropractor.

However it sounds as if you have a fear of getting a chiropractic adjustment. There are several techniques that utilize instuments for adjusting the spine. The one you described is called an "activator" there are several other instrument adjusting tools The ProAdjuster, Pulstar adjusting systems. Quite possibly you could find a chiropractor who employs those techniques.

I hope this information is helpful.
