Question
si joint dynfuciton is this alot of crap?



i have quite a few things wrong with my back

with more than a few birth defects as well

for the longest time a few chiros have told

me that i also had SIJD

and that one side was too locked

but really now i have read the si joint only moves

something like max 3 degrees

i just dont beleive that such little movement even

if one had one of their si joints locked would make that

difference

what is your opinion on sijd and do you have any studies

proving that it is something really to be concerned about

Hi J,

Yes, actually you can have SI joint dysfunction, but it is a "presumptive diagnosis."   It is proven to be the cause of your pain when something is done to the SIJ and you feel better.   Some folks get an anesthetic block (injection) and get instant relief, and this proves that the SIJ was the problem.   MD Physiatrists, for example, typically will do this sort of injection.    The SIJ was believed to only have a little movement, e.g. only a few degrees, but that doesn't take into account all of the coupled movements and the sum of the combined movements of the pelvic ring.  Some folks have more mobile SIJ's and some have totally stiff SIJ's (e.g. from arthritis or injury);    For most people with back pain, there is more going on than SIJD.   And, with pain involved, the cause isn't the SIJD (which you can find on a lot of people - presumably), but from other tissues:  fascia, tendon sheaths, joint synovial linings, or cruddy/irritated intervertebral discs.    I've seen SIJD as a cop out diagnosis when the doctor or PT cannot understand what is causing pain.   You can go to Google-Scholar and search it and you will see a whole bunch of articles pop up.
