Chiropractors/Headache after chiro

Question
For the third time in a row now I have had a slowly increasing headache after having my chiropractor appointment.  I started going when I started having trouble sleeping due to neck pain. The neck issue is solved, and my dr. Advises continued treatments. (I'm going 3times a week.) Are the headaches coincidence? Or maybe due to treatment? Should I stop the treatment? Lessen frequency?

Answer
Angie,

If the neck pain is gone and your sleep is okay, then you are done.   Still 3x/week?  For what?  It's one thing to taper off of the treatment in what is known as a "therapeutic withdrawal of care."  This would be done to see if your body does okay over time as treatment dose/frequency is lessened.   Many DC's will go to 1x/week and then 1x/month.  Some, me included, will outright discharge you from treatment and leave you on your own to return if your symptoms return.      There is no rational reason to continue at 3x/week when your condition is better.  It is very likely that the treatment is causing the headaches.  Your chiro knows very well that joint adjustments can cause symptoms if done too often or in the wrong way.  There are guidelines for care: CCGPP is the acronym for Chiropractic Clinical Guidelines and Practice Parameters.  It's likely available on line and your DC should consider following it.

'Hope this was helpful.
