Question According to an MRI I have bulging discs and spinal stenosis at the L4 & L5 area. My left leg gets numb when I walk very far which indicates some nerve pinching (I have already ruled out circulatory problems with the appropriate tests). My Chiropractor has been treating me 4 times a week for two months on a Cox distraction table and also the Pro Adjustor. I'm concerned because he has asked me not to ride my bicycle which is one exercise I can do without ill effects for 25 miles. He also refuses to recommend any specific stretches, bends, or anything that might help strengthen muscles. I have high triglycerides and exercise is an important step in helping to improve that condition. Does my chiropractor's approach seem correct?
Thanks
Answer Hello Irvin,
Yes, if exercise is increasing the pain and aggravating the low back it may cause more damage and increasing the healing time. However if you feel the exercise helps, continue to workout and ice frequently to decrease swelling from bloodflow and joint irritation. Depending on the size of the Disc protrusion and stenosis you may want to consult a othropedic surgeon for their opinion.
