Chiropractors/Leg Pain

Question
You know that initial feeling you get when you hit your elbow and it hurts and everyone says you hit your "funny bone?"

Well, I've been having a similar sensation in my right leg.  It's sporadic -- not constant.  I can be sitting and get up to walk, or I'll be walking and then all of a sudden the "funny bone" sensation hits.  It's intense and I have to stop walking.  Sometimes it goes away immediately and I can resume walking.  On other occasions, when I stop walking and resume walking, it will last for 3-4 steps. I try to grab onto something so I won't fall.  I have not been successful in pinpointing the exact spot of where the initial pain starts but it seems to be in the upper portion of the thigh.  Any idea of what this could be and a field of specialty to seek treatment.

Answer
It sounds as if you are having irritation of one of the branches of the sciatic nerve.  Sciatic pain can vary from "funny bone" feeling to burning to ache.  If you do not have a chiropractor, you may want to find one.  X-rays would be a must.  These can assist in determining if you have subluxation (misalignment( or disc issues.
