Question
I have had a flare up of myofascitis 3 times in the last 2 years. This last spell has lasted for 3 weeks, much longer than the other two. The pain is in my lower back but radiates up the left side, and is now in my upper left arm. I have been to an internal medicine doctor twice in the last 2 weeks who has given me Zanaflex, Mobic and Percocet which has offered little relief. The pain is tolerable in the morning but as the day progresses it does too. I went to a masseuse a week ago but it was only temporary relief. What else can I do. Thank you.

First, if your pain is truly caused by myofascial irritation, then obtain a myofascial therapy. A well trained chiropractor is your best bet, especially if they are certified or have additional training in myofascial therapies such as myfascial release techniques and Graston Technique (www.grastontechnique.com). There is no medicine to cure myofascitis. Going to an internal medicine doctor makes sense for an internal disorder, like pneumonia, gastroenteritis, or an infection. For the musculoskeletal condition of myofascitis, you need to see the folks to are best trained to diagnose it and then treat it. Maybe you don't have myofascitis. Radiating pain in your arm is a concern, and it doesn't make sense that it is purely myofascitis. Read some of my previous posts regarding how to find a good chiropractor.
